Today, a unique coalition of 90+ organisations – from farmers, food manufacturers and retailers to food services, public health actors, cities, and consumer groups – are launching an EU Policy Action Brief that translates the science behind the 2025 EAT-Lancet Commission report into concrete EU policy recommendations.
Despite their different starting points, the food system communities found overlapping interests, demonstrating that meaningful policy change for a healthier, more sustainable, and more just food system is both needed and achievable.
The EU Policy Action Brief outlines six interconnected priority packages that positively reinforce each other to accelerate progress:
- Value Chain Development
- Fiscal and Economic Support
- Public Procurement
- Information, Transparency, and Trust
- Research, Innovation, and Knowledge Sharing
- Trade and Market Rules
With major EU policy and budget files now in negotiation, and after a summer with devastating agricultural losses across Europe, the moment to act is now. The contributing organisations are calling on EU lawmakers to establish an EU Action Plan for a healthy, sustainable, and just food system – delivering it coherently while actively involving scientists, and food system communities in its design, implementation, and evaluation.
